Magnum Powers Tension Spring Installation Instructions

Tools Required:

1: Vice

2: Heavy duty flat bladed screwdriver

3: 18mm end wrench

4: Hammer

5: Safety Goggles

When upgrading to the stronger Magnum Powers belt tensioner springs it is important to work on one tensioner at a time as there are differences between the parts used in the jackshaft and supercharger tensioners. The springs we provide are identical and are not specific to either tensioner.

Procedure:

Remove tensioner and place the two taps on the rear surface in a vice as shown:

While holding the tensioner arm with a wrench pry the “Indexing Tab” off the square post with a large flat bladed screwdriver. Remember the spring has “preload” so when the Index Tab is removed the spring will unwind 90 degrees so be careful so as to not become injured. Note: Before removing the Index Tab mark across the Index Tab and the square post to use as a reference when re-assembling. You may bind the tab when removing it however it can be easily flattened again by squeezing in a vice.

When the Index Tab is removed the Tension Arm can be removed revealing the stock spring as can be seen below.

Next widen the “Spring Slot” by about .050” with a die grinder and burr as shown below. This will provide clearance for the larger spring. If you do not have a die grinder the slot can be widened with a file.

Finally replace the stock spring with the stronger one from MP and reassemble by first rotating the Tension Arm 90 degrees from its resting position with an end wrench and replace the Indexing Tab in its original position using the mark made at the beginning of this process.

If you have a large socket wrench as shown above it can be used to press the Indexing Tab on instead of using a small hammer.

Install the tensioner in the car and repeat the process on the other one.

The condition of the drive belts used on your car are crucial to making serious power so we always recommend using new premium quality belts or at least change them every 2 to 3 years. A worn belt can easily slip causing a substantial degradation of HP and TQ.
