Magnum Powers' Intercooler Kit Magnum Powers' Front Mount Intercooler Kit for the Thunderbird SC, Cougar XR7 and Supercharged V6 Mustang upgrade! The Thunderbird SC's stock Intercooler (IC) is much too small, restrictive and ineffective and no one until now has been able to provide a satisfactory solution. Magnum Powers (MP) came to the rescue with a Huge Intercooler that makes BIG Horse Power plus it looks awesome and solves several other problems that plague the SC and its proud owners. In Magnum Powers' tradition of providing only the Highest Quality Products our New Intercooler Kit sports a Massive Spearco IC Core that delivers abundant cold air to your engine thereby producing more power throughout and extending the Power Band. The core on this Huge Intercooler measures 18.5" wide by 14.25" High by 3" deep and has only .5 psi pressure drop at 700 cfm compared to the stock Intercooler's 3.5 psi pressure drop. 
The large custom cast aluminum end tanks provide aerodynamic intake and exit geometry for low backpressure and the cross flow design ensures even air flow throughout the IC for efficient cooling. Also incorporated into the custom tanks are mounting details for a clean and simple installation. Unlike the "Double Intercooler" that is narrow and deep Magnum Powers' Intercooler has a very large frontal area that allows abundant ambient airflow. Abundant airflow is key to low charge-air temperatures just as ambient airflow is key to your radiator's ability to cool your engine. The "Double Intercooler" is not only narrow thus limiting ambient airflow but is also nearly 6 inches deep causing additional restriction. In short Magnum Power's Intercooler is simply a superior design. One SC problem is that the IC return tube was routed down low and ran up right past the exhaust manifold where it picks up a lot of heat. We don't understand why Ford's Engineers did that but never- the- less Magnum Powers solved this problem by routing the return tube over the top of the alternator so heat pickup from the exhaust manifold is eliminated. Included in the kit are Polished and Chrome Plated IC Tubes and all hardware required for the installation and it all fits under the stock hood. 
Question, are you tired of the sealing issues and hassles associated with the rigged IC tubes? MP solved those problems as well by designing the system using Silicon Hose Couplings and T-Bolt Clamps. The Silicon Hose Coupling System makes it possible to remove the IC Tubes in a few minutes allowing the spark plugs to be reached from above saving time and a lot of frustration. The Supercharger to IC Inlet Tube is 2 3/4" and the Return Tube is 2 1/2" providing very low restriction and good throttle response. As you can see in the photos the Intercooler is installed between the AC Condenser and the Radiator making for a simple installation that can be easily accomplished in a weekend. Since the computer turns the A/C off during acceleration heat pickup from the A/C Condenser is not an issue. |
